Tapping with Nancy: Release Attachment

What ‘leaves’ are you ready to drop this Fall season?

headtreesUsually we consider the idea of ‘letting go’ to be difficult and challenging. We concentrate on the losses involved and we tighten against the pain of those losses. As a result we create suffering.

That suffering shows up in our health, our relationships, our finances, our careers and our happiness.

It would be easier for us if we could be more ‘tree-like’. The idea of a tree struggling against dropping its leaves is funny. The tree inherently understands, through it’s connection with nature, that the season of the leaf is finished and that letting it drop is the only way the tree can experience the next season of its life.

But us? Not so much. We hang on to thoughts, emotions, behaviours and habits, people and situations long after their expiry date. Long after they have ceased to work for us. Even though by holding onto them we drain our energy and negatively impact our lives.

Perhaps we aren’t aware of the costs we’re paying by hanging on. Perhaps we’re debilitated by our fear of change. Maybe the uncertainty of whether we can manage the future without our ‘leaf’ keeps us desperately clinging to it.

What if we could become more tree-like? What if we could join more gracefully with nature’s cycle of creation and dissolution? Allowing the warmth and light of the sun to facilitate the cycles of our lives?

What might be possible for us if we could surrender to the ending of ‘what is’ and allow the unfolding of what is ‘to be’? What if we could trust that we are not alone and not ultimately in control?

Our role is to recognize the resistance/tension that we are bringing to the process and to release that constriction so that the energy of acceptance and gratitude may fill our mind, our brain and every cell of our body.

I invite you now to think of a situation, a belief, an event, a habit, an emotion or perhaps even a person that you know it’s time to release.
