Lately I’ve been noticing something about the way creativity shows up in my life.
It isn’t particularly interested in my plans.
Ideas arrive while I’m walking, talking with a client, preparing a class, or simply living my life. A small moment suddenly reveals something worth exploring. A conversation becomes a teaching. An observation turns into a new understanding.
The interesting part isn’t that the ideas arrive.
The interesting part is what happens when I try to organize them.
Recently, while thinking ahead to upcoming holidays and the content I “should” be creating, I found myself feeling resistance. Not because I had nothing to say. Quite the opposite.
The more I sat with it, the more I began to see something that felt surprisingly familiar.
I was trying to organize a living process as though it were a machine.
And that realization opened a much larger question.
How often do we create systems, expectations, schedules, or goals that make perfect sense on paper, only to discover that something inside us isn’t cooperating?
When that happens, many of us assume we need more discipline, more motivation, or a better strategy.
But what if the resistance is information?
What if the living system is already communicating exactly what it needs?
This reflection became the foundation for a conversation about creativity, nervous systems, listening, and what happens when we stop assuming that something is wrong and start becoming curious instead.
