What if feeling something deeply doesn’t mean we need to change it?
When emotion becomes intense, it can be natural to assume that something needs our attention. That we need to regulate it, soften it, understand it or somehow help ourselves feel differently.
But intensity alone doesn’t necessarily tell us what our living system needs.
Sometimes tapping can help us remain in relationship with ourselves when an experience feels too large to hold alone. And sometimes, the most compassionate response may be something very different: staying present, listening, and allowing ourselves to fully experience what is already moving through us.
In this reflection, I share a moment when I knew with absolute clarity that I did not want to tap — and why that experience changed the way I think about emotional intensity, self accompaniment and even the idea of a daily tapping practice.
Perhaps the question isn’t simply, “Should I tap?”
Perhaps it is, “What does being with myself look like today?”
