This past week I had the privilege of speaking at the Connexus ’15 Conference ( Canada’s national conference of career counselling and services professionals) with over 800 delegates attending from around the world. There we over 150 sessions on career counselling, mental health, and self care.

Keynote Speaker Jaime Watt, a ground breaking public strategist and Executive Director at Navigator, gave a great presentation called “Empathy is the key to my success.” Some of the key takeaways from this topic came from a research survey conducted with 1500 Canadians around their selection of a career service counsellor. What was found were the following:

“Price only matters when there is no value.”

“Communicate the value of what you do with simple ideas – tell your story, tell the stories of who you help, champion those stories in the social media, and humanize your content with stories of success.”

“Talk about how you help your clients lead better lives.”

Overall it was a fantastic weekend. I had standing room only for my talk on “You are More Powerful than Your Stress Response”. I am grateful for the privileged to be able to speak at such an incredible event and be among such visionaries.
